JUSTICE: A new courthouse planned for 2025

0

With a view to the creation of the seconded chamber of the court in Saint-Martin in 2016, the State launched work to refurbish the old library to accommodate it. Led by the public agency for justice real estate (APIJ) in Guadeloupe, they began in 2016 and ended a few months after Irma. The amount invested was 1,9 million euros (+ 250 euros in post-Irma repairs).

After the passage of Irma, the State undertook the repairs of its buildings and took the opportunity to improve their resistance to cyclones but also to earthquakes. In this logic, a seismic diagnosis of the old library was ordered in 2019, a diagnosis which was refused at the time of the works in 2016. The results of the surveys showed that the building did not comply with the regulations on the matter. .

The cost of upgrading the site to seismic standards being deemed too high, the Ministry of Justice decided "to limit the intervention on these buildings to the maintenance and improvement of working conditions" and to build a new palace justice in Saint-Martin. Studies have been launched. The future courthouse could be integrated into the new administrative city, this is what the transversal policy document / finance bill for 2020 reveals. Its commissioning is scheduled for 2025.
