JUSTICE: 6 months in prison and ban on stay on the French side for 2 young people from St Maarten

They are 18,5 and 20 years old and live on the Dutch side. EG and IS appeared on Thursday before the Saint-Martin local court for illegal use of narcotic drugs, carrying of category B weapons and possession of category C weapons.

Specifically, they were accused of having been in possession of a handgun, two knives and 27 grams of cannabis. They were arrested on January 6 in Cul de Sac. On that day, they are in a car parked in the parking lot of the pier.

It is around 21 p.m. when gendarmes on patrol see the vehicle. Red and white in color, they challenge them; a few days earlier, a similar car involved in the theft was indeed reported by the Sint Maarten police.

The gendarmes then decide to check the said vehicle. Five people are on board: IS is the driver, EG the front passenger and three other individuals, minors, in the back. The soldiers immediately saw a 38 caliber handgun at the feet of EG. Then, while searching, they find a brass knuckles, a small knife and another 12 cm at the feet of IS as well as cannabis distributed in five small sachets. Tools will also be discovered suggesting that individuals were preparing to commit car thefts. Among these tools: two crowbars, five screwdrivers, an ice pick, two pairs of scissors and two masks.

After deliberation, the court imposed a prison sentence in accordance with the requisitions, namely twelve months in prison, six of which were suspended, a ban on holding a weapon for fifteen years and a ban on staying on the French side for three years. .
