JUSTICE: 17 and 13 years in prison for raping young girls

A 52-year-old man was sentenced by the Sint Maarten Court of First Instance to a seventeen-year prison term for raping several girls aged between 5 and 11 between 2011 and 2020. His partner, aged 35 years old, she was sentenced to thirteen years in prison for the same facts.

Four victims were heard. The investigation revealed that they came from an unstable family situation. They went to the defendant's house to play with his daughter and/or to do homework with his companion, who knew the girls well since she worked in the school they attended. The little ones were entrusted by their mother. Often, they spent the weekend there.

If the victims were not threatened with violence, they had no choice but to submit to the wishes of the defendant, since the abuses took place at night.

Although very young, they gave multiple details to the investigators on the sexual behavior of the defendants, which did not allow them to doubt their word.

“The victims were at the mercy of the suspects and had to tolerate their actions,” the court noted. He also received civil party applications from two victims (represented by their lawyer) and ordered the two individuals to pay them each $27 and $780 in damages. (soualigapost.com)
