Youth and education are at the heart of Louis Mussington's concerns

“You said loud and clear that you want to be considered. (…) My response to young people is to say with the same energy [with which they mobilized during these elections] that we have heard your cry and we are fully aware of your difficult situations”, launched Louis Mussington for young people in the preamble to his general policy speech on Sunday morning.

The new majority will present in detail its measures “to combat the high unemployment rate and the social crisis in the weeks to come”.

The leader of the Rassemblement Saint-Martin has however already announced “the establishment of a youth plan to help him integrate into society”. "We must relaunch public procurement and bring into play integration clauses in all markets," he insisted. The new majority also wants to reopen negotiations with the State for the establishment of an RSMA in Saint-Martin “in order to allow those who have left the school cycle to find an offer that meets their desires”. Louis Mussington also announced the creation of a school of nurses in order to "increase the number of young professionals in the medical field in Saint-Martin" and have already contacted the University of the West Indies so that at the start of the school year soon, diploma courses will be set up in Saint-Martin; creating a branch of the University of the West Indies is a project that Louis Mussington has been defending for several years.

Another battle horse of Louis Mussington, bilingualism. He therefore undertook to “quickly sign with France an agreement relating to fully bilingual education in the schools of Saint-Martin”. However, it remains to be seen how National Education will be able to apply the measure.

In the meantime, and more generally, the priorities of the Saint-Martin Rassemblement will be to "restore confidence, relaunch the administrative machine and meet the needs of the population" but also to strengthen cooperation with Sint Maarten and the other territories of the Caribbean, to start "in full confidence in relations with the State", to fully include Saint-Martin in the next European program and to contribute to the economic revitalization of Saint-Martin.

“It is now a question, under the control of the population, of transforming this project into realisation. This is the great ambition of our team. The momentum that unfolded on Sunday [March 27] is the fuel for this dedicated and committed team of women and men,” concluded Louis Mussington. (source: soualigapost.com)
