At the request of President Daniel Gibbs, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin undertook to carry out the complete renovation of the Sandy Ground bridge, in order to offer an efficient tool to users who use the channel and the roadway. These works are carried out for an amount of 1.6 million euros.
The blockages in December forced the service provider to stop its construction, it will be able to resume the finalization work of the first phase, starting on Saturday March 7, 2020.
Thus, on Saturday March 7, alternating traffic will be set up on the road, between 07:00 and 15:00. This work involves installing the new pylon.
On Sunday March 8, road traffic will be interrupted between 7:00 a.m. and 15:00 p.m. to finalize the installation of the pylon.
Between Monday 9 and Thursday 19 March, the company will proceed to the operations of connection and adjustment of the lifting mechanisms of the bridge. In addition to traffic orders, signs informing road users of traffic changes will be installed:
- At the foot of the bridge, Sandy-Ground side;
- On the roundabout of the cemetery of Marigot;
- At the crossroads of rue de la Liberté and rue du Président Kennedy.
Also, sea traffic will be prohibited for any type of boat, on Saturday March 7 and Sunday March 8, 2020, between 07:00 and 15:00.
Traffic will be restored for all types of boat from Friday, March 20, 2020.
The second phase of the works is scheduled (replacement of the deck) at the start of the summer vacation period, it will replace the deck of the bridge. A communication will be made in due time.
