Haiti: Ten dead in floods over the weekend

At least ten people died this weekend in Haiti after heavy floods. The country is still heavily affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew last month.

Floods killed 10 people in Haiti over the weekend, Interior Ministry official said on Sunday as the country struggles to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, which left 1 dead and 000 homeless last month.

The hurricane destroyed food stocks, electricity, telecommunications and transport networks and filled the fields with seawater and waste.

Persistent rains

The hurricane season lasts until the end of the month, and persistent rains have caused landslides, floods, and several deaths in the weeks since Matthew passed.

"The deceased were the result of various circumstances but all have a link with the rain," said Albert Moulion, spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior. “Vigilance is still required because the weather conditions indicate that there will be even more rain this week. " _AF
