Guadeloupe: Fire begins at the Caribbean Pole control tower, disrupted regional traffic…

0

The start of a fire broke out the day before yesterday morning at the Pointe-à-Pitre Pôle Caraïbes airport control tower. It is a halogen lamp that burned, causing significant smoke inside the tower, to the point of inconvenience the air traffic controllers. Traffic was therefore suspended throughout the morning, causing delays on rotations between Pointe-à-Pitre to Saint-Martin Grand-Case.

The material damage is not very important. The halogen lamp in question was located at the reception of the tower but the fumes caused by its explosion invaded the building; which triggered the fire safety system and shut down all devices. In fact, no communication was possible between the control tower and the pilots.

Air traffic was therefore suspended until midday, time for the security services to clean the air in the tower and for the air traffic control technicians to restart all the machines.

Only regional traffic was affected, in particular between Pointe-à-Pitre and Grand-Case airport, the flights being delayed from Guadeloupe and necessarily from Saint-Martin.

Since yesterday morning, everything has returned to normal! _AF
