Guadeloupe (Covid-19): 262 new cases identified and 11 deaths to be deplored

The vulnerability of Guadeloupe is still at a "high" level with 262 new cases recorded, 11 deaths and more than twenty new hospitalizations. The circulation of the virus remains active, however, with a slow decline in the epidemic.

According to the latest situation update from the prefecture, Guadeloupe has recorded 262 new cases of coronavirus, for the week of October 19 to 25. This brings to 7 the number of cumulative cases confirmed by PCR tests in our territory. The circulation of the virus therefore remains active and the vulnerability of our territory is still at a "high" level.

11 new deaths

Over the period, we deplore 11 new deaths in health establishments, mostly men all having in common the presence of comorbidities linked to chronic diseases. The average age for men is 73 and for women 82. Which, since the start of the epidemic, has brought the number of deaths of residents of Guadeloupe to 126 in total in health establishments.

Fragile people, of all ages, often carriers of chronic diseases, must protect themselves through barrier gestures but also by refusing physical contact (hugs, hugs, etc.). In the event of symptoms, these people are invited to contact their doctor at the first signs. Don't wait until you have serious signs!

21 new hospitalizations

The number of people admitted to hospital is decreasing. That of serious cases is always linked to fragile patients with comorbidities. Hospital activity is down with 21 new admissions to the CHU, including only one direct entry into intensive care.

As of Sunday, October 25, there were 19 covid + people hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the CHUG and 66 in the medical services of the establishments (CHU, CHBT, Marie-Galante, Beauperthuy, Capesterre belle Eau and CMS). It should be noted that 43 patients were discharged from the hospital and returned to their homes.

Five outbreaks under investigation

During the same week, 2 additional tests were recorded thanks to campaigns in the commune, laboratories and hospitals, with a total number of 377 tests carried out since the start of the epidemic. The decrease in positive cases over the period is effective but it is slow.

Five clusters are under investigation.

 Reckless young people

For this week, the incidence rate is lower in the 45-year-old age group and over (57,98 / 100 inhabitants) than for 000-15 year-olds (44 / 96,42 inhabitants). This can be interpreted as better protection for older people and less respect for barrier measures by younger people.

 Encouraging indicators

The ARS closely monitors the indicators put in place since the monitoring of deconfinement:

- Incidence rate which measures the number of people positive for Covid-19 per 100 inhabitants over a period of one week. Guadeloupe is above the alert threshold with a rate of 000 / 69,52 inhabitants. It is down compared to the past week but remains at a high level.

- Positivity rate which measures the number of people positive for Covid-19 / the number of tests carried out over a week. In Guadeloupe, it is 11,02%, it has also fallen compared to last week.

- Effective reproduction factor of the virus (R) which represents the average number of people that an infected person can infect. It is less than 1, ie 0,60 with a significant value. This is encouraging but should be taken with caution.
