On March 2 and 3, special recruitment days for reservists and assistant gendarmes of the gendarmerie took place in the La Savane barracks.
Announced for several weeks in all the press of the island, the young Saint-Martin responded to the meeting.
Thus, the general's adviser, commander of the gendarmerie of Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands and a staff of the CRCS (center for recruitment, competition and selection) of Saint-Claude, helped by personnel from the company of Saint-Martin, investigated 60 cases (never seen before in Saint-Martin).
The action of the various companies of reservists who came after Irma is the main source of motivation for these young people (most of them are between 25 and 30 years old). Seeing reservists from Metropolitan France participate in securing the island decided to invest themselves. The example, relayed by the press, of the two reservists from Saint-Martin finished convincing them that engaging in the reserve was accessible to them, especially among women.
Moreover, it should be noted that 75% of the candidates were women. On the horizon of the Women's Day on March 8, this massive female participation shows that the gendarmerie appears as an attractive institution for the female gender and also that the Saint Martin woman particularly wants to invest for the good of her community. .
The selection of reservists took place in two phases:
- a personality inventory (IP6D: 6-dimensional personality inventory)
- an interview with a testing officer or non-commissioned officer.
Once selected, future reservists will complete a 15-day training course during the summer. (The response time is a few weeks, personality inventories being analyzed in mainland France).
