After Martinique and Guadeloupe, the Gault & Millau team made a stopover last week on the “Friendly Island”. A visit which is part of the Antilles-Guyana tour of the presentation of the second edition of the Gault & Millau Antilles-Guyane 2020 guide. During the “Soirée des Toques”, five talents from the island were rewarded.

This is the first time that the experts of the Gault & Millau guide have honored Saint-Martin! Two years after the passage of Hurricane Irma, the presence of the famous culinary guide signals a rebirth for gastronomy made in Saint-Martin.

"In this second edition of the Gault & Millau Antilles-Guyane, we were able to select around thirty tables" underlines Alain Warth, Antilles-Guyana director of the Gault & Millau guide. “Saint-Martin is a land of gastronomy, it has been recognized as such. We are convinced that it will become so again. At Gault & Millau, we are ready to help so that Saint-Martin finds its flavors ”continued Jean-Philippe Montel of the Gault & Millau guide

Reviving Saint-Martin land of gastronomy, such is the will carried by the Tourist Office. “Gastronomy is a taste adventure that tells the story of our island, its influences and its cultural mixes. We have to celebrate it and offer the showcase it deserves, ”said Valérie Damaseau. The president of the Tourist Office also took the opportunity to announce the holding in June 2020 of the first edition of the Festival of Gastronomy in Saint-Martin.

"This festival will aim to celebrate the talents and products of our territory". We can not wait to be there !

 Trophy charts  Gault & Millau 2020

The Anse Marcel Beach restaurant won two prizes during the Toques evening: the Chef of the Year prize awarded to Chef Florent Mercadier and the Pastry Chef of the Year prize given to Colin Sauret.

Jerome Droingt (Le Pressoir) was awarded the Young Talent of the Year Trophy. Paul Pierre (Le Temps des Cerises) received the Barman of the Year award.

Finally, the Sommelier of the Year trophy was awarded to Stephane Emorine (The Cottage). _AF
