A month after the fatal attack by a tiger shark in Orient Bay, a young medical student was seriously injured last Saturday by a shark on Booby Island, a desert island located between Saint Kitts and Nevis.

According to our colleagues from the Saint Kitts Nevis Times, a group of seven people went by Kayak on the small wild island of Booby Island, a few miles from Saint Kitts and Nevis. Once they arrived at their destination, several people decided to leave their boat to take a bath. It was then that a young woman suffered a sudden shark attack and was seriously injured in her leg.

The rest of the group of swimmers were rescued by the St. Kitts and Nevis coastguard, and transported to the Oualie Beach landing stage in Nevis.

For his part, the victim was transferred in absolute urgency to the Alexandra Hospital in Charleston where she underwent surgery.

She would have had the injured leg amputated above the knee. _AF
