He had left as usual for a kayak trip in the bay of Cul-de-Sac. An activity that the young man practiced regularly. That evening, he did not come home. After several hours of research, on land and at sea, the body of young Matéo was recovered by the teams of the SNSM (national sea rescue society) from Saint-Martin shortly before 23 p.m. Several land patrols, the nautical brigade as well as the SNSM were mobilized for research. The Dragon 971 rescue helicopter, dispatched from Guadeloupe, also participated in the search. The trail of accidental drowning is currently favored by investigators.
