The Collectivity of Saint-Martin condemns the act of vandalism perpetrated on the equipment of the Concordia sports center (near the Media Library). This equipment had just been installed as part of the program to renovate the sports facilities post Irma.
All the equipment on the basketball court as well as the handball goals were damaged and rendered unusable. The work to refurbish the platform was finalized in the last quarter of 2018 for an amount of € 250. The Community will have to buy the damaged equipment.
The Collectivity wishes to bring this act to the attention of all citizens so that they are informed and that they can transmit to the gendarmerie any information that may lead to the perpetrators.
The Collectivity recalls that these facilities are public goods made available to sports associations for the sporting benefit of the territory. These inadmissible acts of deterioration directly penalize the population and occur only a few weeks after the end of the refurbishment of the structure. These are also acts that endanger the safety of users, because the authors took the time to unbolt the basketball basket piece by piece and the latter could have fallen on a player. The Collectivity deplores these behaviors and will file a complaint with the gendarmerie.
