The opening of the second edition of the ephemeral exhibition "Faces of St Martin II" took place last Saturday, in the Gardens of the Community.

This second edition incorporates the principles of the first, inaugurated in June 2017, namely: display on the walls of the island portraits of inhabitants printed in large format and in black and white. The community was inspired by the work “Inside out” of French street artist JR. Only this year, the participants had to illustrate a profession in its practice, with a scenario of the subject photographed. The exhibition called "Saint-Martin at Work", has been deployed for a few days. 145 photos (against 43 last year) were pasted partly in France, from Sandy Ground to Quartier d'Orléans, on public and private buildings. The posters will tear and peel over time, with their dissolution being an integral part of the project.

“These photos are for us precious testimonies of the resilience of the inhabitants of our island. They are also a tribute to these women and men who invest themselves daily in their profession and help our territory to recover ”said Valérie Damaseau during the opening of the exhibition. She said that this second edition had been prepared by Carole Tondu and Yolande Sylvestre, before the passage of Hurricane Irma. "These photos are all the more telling today because they deal with a major subject for our economy," added the first vice-president in charge of Culture, Youth and Community life.

This exhibition, organized by the Collectivity with the support of the Department of Cultural Affairs of Guadeloupe - Ministry of Culture, the Prefecture of Saint-Martin / Saint Barthélemy and SEMSAMAR is also a competition. Eight photographers answered the call and were each judged on fifteen photos. Chaired by Yolande Sylvestre, and composed of Mr. Moizan, Alain Jouet, Claudio Arnell and Carole Tondu, the jury had to select three winners according to the following criteria: respect for the theme, staging of the image, visual strength of the work, originality of the framing, quality of the rendering. Like last year, Stephanie Deziles finished first, followed by Lauralie Peterson and Nathalie Beaurain. Guillaume Coelho, Christian Mansana, Valérie Vincent, Jean-Robert Cajuste and Mathieu Alexandre follow them.

The first three candidates selected each received a prize: 1st prize: € 500, 2nd prize: € 350, 3rd prize: € 250.
