Extension of the port: a new step soon to be taken

0

The plans to extend the Galisbay commercial port and create a cruise dock will soon take a new step, and not the least, that of drafting the environmental authorization dossier. The port establishment has just launched a market to find a service provider to support it in this process.

As a reminder, the port extension project provides for the development of a channel 1 meters long and 400 m wide with a depth of 105 meters, the objective being to accommodate ships of 9 TEUs. . The work program calls for the dredging of some 1 cubic meters of material (sand, clay and limestone) which will be used in part to fill the embankment. The preliminary and project studies relating to the construction of the access channel have been completed.

Additional storage areas on 6 hectares must also be developed. Two docks will be built for the simultaneous reception of two ships (a Roro quay and a quay for container ships).

Regarding the cruise part, it would be to accommodate ships 200 m long, 28 m wide with a draft of 6,8 m. The studies relating to this project are still at the feasibility study stage.

The market was launched on May 20 and companies have until August 3 to submit their applications. Several months will be required to draft the file before submitting it to the competent authorities. Its investigation will then require approximately nine months: four months of examination, three months of public inquiry and two months of decision. (soualigapost.com)
