Evolution of youth unemployment over 10 years

The number of young people under the age of 25 registered with Pôle Emploi was 555 at the end of March this year, or 15 more than ten years ago. This is identical to that of late 2016-early 2017, or even lower than that of 2012-2013. In 2013, the numbers had exploded and approached the 600 mark.

However, in the first quarter of 2020, young people enrolled were 429, one of the lowest numbers in the decade. The health crisis had a very heavy impact on the job market for this category of people, since in one year, there was an increase of nearly 30%, or 126 additional young people.

The post-Irma reconstruction period had been favorable to young people since around a hundred had unsubscribed in 2018; in the fourth quarter of 2018, they were 345 looking for a job, the lowest level ever. (soualigapost.com)

Seniors are 1,9 times more likely to look for a job than 10 years ago

While the public authorities often orient their policy on youth employment by favoring actions aimed at hiring this category of the population, fewer actions targeting people over 50 are highlighted. However, more and more seniors are looking for a job.

At the end of March 2021, they were 1, or 745 more than a year ago (285%). They represent 19,5% of job seekers in category A. They are 36 times more numerous than ten years ago. As with the other age categories, the post-Irma reconstruction period had generated a decline in older people looking for work. But apart from this period of a few months, unemployment of people over 1,9 has never stopped rising to reach a record level today. (soualigapost.com)
