Evolution of dengue fever in 2020 in Saint-Martin

0

For nearly a year, dengue has been raging in Saint-Martin on a regular basis.

In mid-January this year, Santé Publique France reported 486 clinically suggestive cases in city medicine between October 2019 and mid-January 2020. A little more than a third of these cases had been observed during the last four weeks. In mid-January, the number of consultations in private practice began to increase sharply with around 65 cases per week. It was from this moment that the epidemic phase was declared by Public Health France in Saint-Martin. The graph shows that the evolution has since been constant.

The milestone of 1 cumulative cases was crossed during the first half of April, that of 000 during the second half of August. A total of 2 suggestive cases were observed, or about sixty on average per week. Weekly peaks were noted at the start of the epidemic and then in June. Between weeks 000 and 2 (end of May / mid June), 400 new cases were identified, an average of 22 per week. For two weeks, about fifty suggestive cases have been recorded per week, against an average of 25-215 in September.

The most often found serotype is number 1 (in 82% of cases), the most severe form of the virus. In Guadeloupe it is number 2 in 9 out of 10 cases and in Martinique it is number 3. As a reminder, there are four serotypes of dengue. According to the various studies carried out, scientists believe that the cure results in lifelong immunity only against the serotype that caused the infection. That is, a person can be infected four times, have dengue fever four times in each of its forms. (soualigapost.com)
