The Tournesol association carrying two medico-social projects

As stipulated in our edition of October 28, the authorizations to operate a Specialized Reception Center (MAS) and a medical-educational institute (IME) were granted on October 25, 2022 to the project leader Ove Caraïbes by the Director General of the Regional Health Agency, and to complete the good news, it is the Tournesol association which will be the pilot of these two medico-social projects.

The Tournesol association could not have dreamed of a better birthday present for its fifteen years of existence than to be selected to manage these two  projects in collaboration with Ove Caraïbes, a Martinican association.

The atmosphere was particularly festive last Thursday, October 27, in the premises of the association for parents and friends of children with disabilities located at 4 rue du Soleil Levant in Concordia, during the anniversary day of the 15 year. Created on October 27, 2007 with the opening of the day care service in November 2013 and the service of the professional immersion platform in January 2021, the Tournesol association is chaired by Bérénice Brooks who is delighted that the dream is coming true. : “It is filled with emotion and joy that I announce to you that Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy will have the institutions essential to the development of the disability sector. Indeed, with the support of Ove Caraïbes, its Chairman of the Management Board Christian Berthuy and its Managing Director Carl Paolin, a specialized reception center (MAS) with 25 places in boarding schools and 18 places in day care for young adults aged 20 60 years old and a Medico-Educational Institute (IME) with 10 places in accommodation and 32 places in day care for children and adolescents from 6 to 20 years old will be operational in the coming months”. It was in February 2022 that Ove Caraïbes and the Tournesol association chose to respond to the two calls for projects launched by the ARS, in order to defend the rights of people with disabilities and to create jobs by aiming primarily priority neighborhoods. The MAS will be located in the former Hôtel du Golf in Bellevue and will open in the second half of 2023. As for the IME, day care will be effective by the end of the year, emergency or temporary accommodation beginning of 2023 and the full deployment of the structure in 2025. _VX
