State of emergency declared in Sint-Maarten: At 00:01 am Sunday, our Dutch neighbors will be in total confinement 24 hours a day for 24 days!

It was in the pipes and now it's official! As might be expected, Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs has declared a state of emergency for the south of the island. Clear, no resident of Sint Maarten will be allowed to leave their home for two weeks, day and night!

The growing number of active cases and the two new deaths to be deplored yesterday (4 in total) therefore led the Dutch authorities to take drastic measures and to institute a complete 24 hour curfew.

In fact, complete containment requires, all shops in Sint Maarten will be closed including supermarkets and grocery stores. Only so-called emergency companies, engaged in crisis management (hospital services, city doctors, pharmacies, public services, freight companies and distribution of goods) will be active.

Food shops and service stations will only be open to staff engaged in crisis management.

The Prime Minister also indicated that packed lunches for the most vulnerable will be distributed. Not obvious that everyone can eat their fill every day ...

In short, let's hope that the health crisis will not lead either to a social crisis…

Finally, note that the prefecture of Saint-Martin will communicate tomorrow in order to clarify its latest decisions and the consequences of the total confinement of the Dutch part for the French part.
