COVID-19: 15 new respirators delivered to Guadeloupe

0

The Prefect and the Director General of the ARS inform of the arrival yesterday of a first endowment by the national of 15 respirators for healthcare establishments on the front line against COVID-19.

Coronavirus contamination mainly causes respiratory problems. When these are very important, assistance must be provided, more or less important to natural breathing with a respirator. This ventilatory assistance most often takes place in intensive care.

This allocation therefore increases the number of respirators currently available in Guadeloupe. An additional allocation will be allocated to our territory in the coming weeks. There are several types of respirators, because not all respiratory disorders are the same (more or less severe). This is why this supply of 15 respirators is made up of two different types of respirators which are intended to be used according to different assistance methods:

- 8 “Elysées 350” type respirators to ventilate people with acute respiratory syndromes (ARDS). These respirators have proven themselves in their use in French resuscitation services. They have the same characteristics as the MONNAL T60 also used in the case of acute respiratory syndromes.

- 7 “Elysées 250” type respirators which will be reserved for less serious resuscitation or patient transfers.

For the time being, confinement seems to be slowing the epidemic and the number of new cases. The situation is still stable in the intensive care unit of the CHUG, however it is essential to anticipate a gradual increase in cases even if this is not compulsory.

The delivery of these respirators consolidates our plan to ramp up the health system in our territory.

Let us not relax our efforts! Let’s continue with containment! Respect the curfew! This is what will help contain this epidemic and preserve the strengths of our caregivers.
