The community of Saint-Barthélemy met on Saturday April 4, to consider the consequences of this coronavirus epidemic. The community will test the entire population. The long-term objective: the exit from confinement of the population more or less soon.

The community of Saint-Barthélemy is already thinking about the post-coronavirus crisis. The territorial council met on Saturday April 4, to address this subject, but also to release 2 million euros in order to have the entire population screened.

First French island hit by Covid-19

The sister island of Saint-Barth was the first to be affected in our basin. The political reaction was swift: the borders were closed and confinement decreed.
To date, according to the last point of the health authorities, Gustavia has 6 people contaminated since the beginning of the epidemic, 4 are cured and there are still two confined. Good figures which suggest a way out of the crisis for this community.
Screening of nearly 10 inhabitants

But be careful, you don't have to do anything. The community will test the entire population. The long-term objective: the exit from confinement of the population more or less soon.
The territorial council voted 2 million euros to buy tests in order to set up a total screening of the population, that is to say a little more than 9 inhabitants. The objective is to avoid spreading in the event of early deconfinement on the island.
Bruno Magras, the president of the local authority wishes to obtain from the government, this lifting of confinement.

Break out of containment while protecting yourself

On Radio Saint-Barth, Valérie Denux, the director of the ARS, assessed the situation. If the evolution goes in the right direction, a release from containment could intervene. But not just any old way, explains Bruno Magras before firmly recalling that, “whatever the advances, failures or successes of this extended screening project, strict respect for barrier gestures - and wearing a mask when possible - remain and will remain the best attitude to stop the spread of the virus. All confinement and social distancing instructions must continue to be strictly followed. The approach of Easter does not allow any relaxation, ”he concludes.
