ENVIRONMENT: A look back at the second edition of the Get Up Clean Up Contest

0

A great success for the second part of the waste collection competition organized on Sunday, November 14 by MyStraw Company with the support of Dauphin Telecom, a humble civic gesture for a cause that is more relevant than ever.

If the number of participants is lower than that of the first edition, namely 250 participants for 400 in 2019, the number of bags collected has increased to reach the impressive figure of 1894 bags filled. 43 teams spread over the different sectors pre-established by the organizers struggled all morning to participate in the cleanliness of the territory in joy and good humor. The largest number of teams was noticed in Friar's Bay and Grand-Case, the latter moreover transformed into a veritable collection plant, the containers made available in the car park were filled at a remarkable speed. 32 volunteers were present to count the yellow, green and black bags (selective sorting), as well as the bulky items brought back en masse this year. A nod to youth in the presence of students with the “tourism” option. The final collection was carried out gradually by the Collectivity. More than thirty teams were rewarded for their hard work thanks to some sixty partners who graciously offered prizes. Even if everyone is a winner in this competition, the primary objective of which is to maintain a clean island and make the population aware of the capital importance of sorting and recycling waste, it should be noted that some teams have shown a strategy to all test. Here is the list of the teams collecting the most bags and the prizes allocated to them:

1. Team the Sargassus of Grand Case with 168 bags leaves with 6 passes for the Sxm Festival and a boat trip offered by Tropical Boat.

2. Team At the end of the world (Oyster Pond) (winner of the first edition) with 136 bags wins a session with SXM Paintball and a voucher for Karibuni.

3. Team Grand Coeur Grand Case with 117 bags enjoys a day at the Samanna and a voucher for the Ocean 82 restaurant.

4.Team Rugrats Grand Case with 111 bags wins 2 gyrocopter flights, a voucher and sunbeds for the Yellow Beach and a windsurfing course with Windy Reef Galion.

5. Team Caribbean CBD with 109 bags receives a -50% voucher on a parachute jump, 2 nights at the Great Bay Villas and a sunset on the Soul of Pirates sailboat

If a third edition is already being whispered on everyone's lips, let's hope that one day Saint Martin will no longer need the Get Up Clean Up Contest (and Clean St Martin) to offer a clean and dignified landscape. _VX
