Overseas / Tensions in Guadeloupe: 200 police and gendarmes sent as reinforcements

The roads of Guadeloupe are dotted with many blocking points related to demonstrations against the vaccine obligation. The night of last Thursday was marked by scenes of violence which led to the sending of reinforcements of members of the police force.

Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, and Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of Overseas Territories strongly condemn the violence that has taken place in recent hours in Guadeloupe.

The ministers provide support to the police forces and state services mobilized. They decided to deploy 200 additional police and gendarmes in the coming days in order to restore republican order.

In addition to the dams erected throughout the archipelago, in Pointe-à-Pitre, at least six homes were affected by arson. Four of them were completely destroyed despite the intervention of firefighters.

Stores were also broken up and a jewelry store was completely robbed as well as a motorcycle dealership. _AF
