ENVIRONMENT: Renewal of the clean island operation

0

The Collectivity has decided to renew the clean island operation carried out last year at the beginning of July. During two weekends, the inhabitants were invited to get rid of their bulky items and other waste, skips were made available to them free of charge in the districts. The objective was to carry out a major cleanup of the island in preparation for the hurricane season.

The operation, the dates of which have not yet been communicated, will be renewed this year under the same conditions; the ecosite (former landfill) located in Grandes Cayes will also be opened. With the approach of the hurricane season and the still large number of bulky items in private homes, President Daniel Gibbs calls on everyone to take responsibility for taking advantage of this clean island operation to get rid of it. Last year almost 74 tonnes of waste could have been picked up, but barely two months later, a few days before Irma passed, many people had left their bulky items on the public highway so that they could be picked up by Community services. The clean island operation will cost the COM 30 euros, mainly the cost of equipment rental. (Source: www.soualigapost.com)
