The Philipsburg (Pond Island) landfill was on fire again. Thick black smoke was visible from the French side. The fire started on Friday, April 13 in the middle of the day.
At the beginning of the afternoon, no official information had been given as to the possible closure of the surrounding schools, or that of the carnival village opened the day before.
Sint Maarten police posted a video of the fire in the early afternoon on their Facebook page.
