The Health Agency of Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, Saint Barthélemy (ARS) ensures regular sanitary control of all the bathing areas declared in Guadeloupe in Saint-Martin and Saint Barthélemy.

Sanitary control consists of regular monitoring in the field, water samples taken at each control and sanitary interpretation of the analysis results * (carried out by the Institut Pasteur). It meets both the requirements of the European Directive of February 15, 2006 (2006/7 / EC) and those of the Public Health Code. Two bacteriological parameters, indicators of water quality, are sought: Fecal streptococci and Escherichia coli.
The ARS published in April its "2018 assessment of the quality of bathing water in Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy". 2097 samples were taken from 24 communes in Guadeloupe and two Overseas Collectivities (COM). Of the 129 swimming sites referenced at European level (111 sites at sea, 18 in rivers),
96,1% comply with European standards while 2,3% are classified as "water of insufficient quality" and 1,6% are unclassified. In Saint-Martin, the ARS carried out 212 samples from 12 bathing sites referenced at European level, including the Orient Bay (North and South), the mouth of the mouth (North and South), Red Bay, Long Bay and Plum bay, Friar's Bay, Grand-Case and Petite plage). 100% of swimming has been classified in excellent quality with reference to the results of the last four seasons.
