Environment: Beginning of Sargassum collection this weekend in Cul-de-Sac

The Collectivity set up in 2020 a public market with two lots to clean the coast of Oyster-Pond (Coralita), Mont Vernon (north), Cul-de-Sac and Grandes Cayes, during each massive arrival of Sargassum algae.

Since the service order sent, in the course of last March, to the two companies linked by contract to the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, the institution has had to face administrative difficulties delaying the cleaning of the coastal sites in the north. -est of the island, generally impacted by groundings of Sargassum seaweed. Difficulties in the payment process of companies but also in the execution of service orders, caused this delay in intervention.

These administrative blockages partially resolved thanks to the work undertaken jointly by the COM services, the Public Finance Center and the State which supports the Collectivity on this public health issue, the Collectivity is now in a position to announce the intervention of the contracted company for the cleaning of the Cul-de-Sac cove. Operations are due to start this weekend. The institution makes every effort to be able to intervene on other sites.

The Community wishes to apologize to the inhabitants for this late intervention period.
