Since the passage of Irma, the 149 employees of the Belmond La Samanna hotel have been put into partial activity. On January 19, during a meeting with their management, the members of the works council learned that the group's management had launched a job protection plan which, according to them, threatened 138 permanent employees. The representatives then had three months to negotiate the terms of this PSE before it was submitted for approval by the labor management.

The negotiation period ended on April 26. After several meetings and demonstrations, the employees finally reached an agreement with their management. "We were able to negotiate with the group's lawyer" reports Franki Lainez, secretary of the works council. Thus, of the 138 CDI threatened, 50 would be saved. "These are intermediate CDI" he specifies before explaining that the holders of this type of contract will work nine months and will be paid out of twelve. The employees also gave up the bonuses that had previously been allocated to them. The 50 positions are open to all employees and criteria have been put in place to determine the order of priority for choosing who will be rehired in this form (seniority, children, etc.). "The others, (ie 88 employees, editor's note) will be dismissed" he advances. They may be taken up on a fixed-term contract. The employees have managed to obtain supra-legal indemnities proportional to their seniority in the company, which suit them.

Contacted by email last week, group management has so far made no comments. To be effective, this job safeguarding plan must above all be validated by the DIECCTE (The Directorate of Companies, Competition, Consumption, Labor and Employment) of Guadeloupe.
