One of the conditions for having one's candidacy for the presidential election accepted is to obtain at least 500 sponsorships from local elected officials. Thursday 2 sponsorships were already validated by the Constitutional Council. But none came for the moment from an overseas territory.
In Saint-Martin, all the territorial councillors, the senator and the deputy of Saint-Martin can sponsor a candidate.
As a reminder, in 2017, five elected officials from the territory had sponsored three candidates for the presidential election.
