Education / Parcoursup 2020: everything you need to know

0

High school students who want to start higher education and students in reorientation can register their wishes on Parcoursup since yesterday, Wednesday, January 22. This post-baccalaureate admission platform, inaugurated two years ago, this year incorporates all the training recognized by the State.

Registration is open until March 12

Young people can register from January 22 until March 12. From this date, it will no longer be possible to make wishes, but candidates will have until April 2 to finalize their applications. The answers will begin to fall, over the water, from May 19, until July 17 for the main phase. They will be suspended during the written bac exams, from June 17 to 24. The complementary phase, open to candidates who have only experienced refusals or who change vows, will be open from June 25 to September 10.

Applicants can make 10 wishes in total

Until March 12, candidates will be able to make up to 10 wishes (with the possibility of under-wishes depending on the training), without having to classify them.

For each wish, the candidate must explain his motivation in a few lines. A “Future file”, which contains the teachers' appreciation and the opinion of the school head, will also be sent to universities and selective training.

Training can give several answers

The universities answer “yes” if the candidate is accepted unconditionally, or “yes if” if they are asked to follow an educational or personalized support program (218 were offered last year). It will also very often be "on hold" since on Parcoursup - unlike the previous formula, APB - formations which have more candidates than places offered classify the candidates according to their file.

The candidate, as well as his parents and his school, will be informed of the responses of the training establishments by email, SMS and on his Parcoursup account.

The selective courses (BTS, IUT, preparatory classes) answer "yes", "no" or "pending". For the latter case, the candidate can obtain several information in order to estimate his chances: his position on the waiting list, the total number of candidates on the list, the number of places in the training… It is recommended that young people make several wishes and not to apply only to selective courses, so that they do not end up on the floor.

Applicants will have five days to respond

From May 19 to 23, candidates will have five days to respond to the proposals received. From May 24, this period is reduced to four days and from May 25 to three days.

As last year, the candidate still on the waiting list will be able, if he wishes, to prioritize one or more wishes with an “automatic responder” option, from May 19. A device for those who do not want to connect every day to the platform. At the end of June, a progress report will force the candidate to confirm the pending vows which still interest him.

Over 600 new training courses are available

Parcoursup will bring together more than 2020 public and private training courses in 15, i.e. all post-baccalaureate training courses recognized by the State.

This year, 600 new training courses are available, in particular the selective licenses of the University of Paris-Dauphine, the 10 Sciences Po / Institutes of political studies, new business or management schools, training institutes for paramedical professions, etc.

Another novelty: the reform of health studies, with the abolition of the first year common to health studies (Paces).

Future baccalaureate holders will now be able to choose the specific Health Access Course on Parcoursup - called PASS - or a license with the "Health Access" option - known as L.AS - accessible everywhere, including in universities that do not have a health faculty. .

A new platform is available for candidates in reorientation

In 2019, some 110 candidates, who were neither high school students nor students and who wished to resume studies, registered on Parcoursup. However, it was not the priority audience for the platform.

The “ParcoursPlus” service, available from Wednesday, will be dedicated to them this year. In conjunction with the Ministry of Labor, regions and universities, it will offer them a specific offer of information and guidance.
