Since the announcement by the President of the Republic of the closure of schools to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the rector of the Guadeloupe academic region, Mostafa Fourar, is doing everything to maintain links with all students using all the tools available. The President of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, Daniel Gibbs and the 3rd Vice-President in charge of Education, Annick Pétrus hoped that the Collectivity could provide support for the distance education system set up by national education.

Thus, the Collectivity, in conjunction with the national education service and the telephone operator Dauphin Telecom, provided tablets and wifi routers to 67 pupils of Terminale de Saint-Martin previously identified as being lacking digital solutions in their homes.

These students will be able to communicate with their teachers and continue the learning necessary to obtain the baccalaureate. The Collectivity has made 67 digital tablets, 47 routers, 20 Hubs and 67 SIM cards (4G) available to these students. This material is made available to the pupils in the form of an agreed agreement. These tablets had previously been acquired as part of the digital development plan funded 50% by the State and 50% by the Collectivity. The Collectivity is responsible for the purchase of 47 routers and the Internet subscription for the students.

The president Daniel GIBBS and the vice-president Annick PETRUS gave these tablets and these routers to the students of the Terminale in each of the two high schools of Saint-Martin, this Wednesday, April 8, in the presence of the vice-rector Michel SANZ, of the management staff of the two high schools and their teams, and of the Education and Information Systems departments of the Community, who prepared this distribution, according to a rigorous organization in compliance with the sanitary rules essential in these times of confinement.
