ECONOMY: Fewer women but more men looking for work in Saint Martin

0

Since the beginning of the year, the number of women, who represent 63% of job seekers, has been decreasing, whereas it had increased last year. At the end of December 2018, 2 women were registered with Pôle Emploi compared to 610 nine months later.

Conversely, the number of men looking for a job is increasing, whereas it had decreased in 2018: 1 against 410 today (+ 1%). The trend was confirmed and reinforced in the third quarter.

Between the third and the second quarter, 50 additional men were unemployed against + 30 between the second and the first quarter.

This trend - even if it has yet to be confirmed - could reflect a change in the economic context, precisely a drop in the need for labor in reconstruction sites.
