ECONOMY: Projects that never saw the light of day

0

Saint-Martin has never missed projects. Whether private or public. But only very few have been successful. That is why today it is difficult to believe in new people. Here are some of the projects announced that have never materialized for various reasons.

• Heritage restoration

The restoration in progress of Fort Louis is part of a heritage and tourist development plan, with those of the old barracks / prison in Marigot and the Moho rock in Quartier d'Orléans. A global study was carried out by architects for an amount of 1,5 million euros; the study for Fort Louis costing nearly 900 euros.

At the same time, specialized architects carried out a study relating to the restoration and enhancement of the ruins of the sugar refinery in Spring and the creation of an interpretation trail and a botanical garden for an estimated cost of 1,4, XNUMX million euros.

Of these three upgrading proposals, only that of Fort Louis was funded.

• Small projects announced

Elected officials also often present smaller projects, but which also do not see the light of day. Among which the installation of a craft market in Cul de Sac, the creation of the Food by night event in Marigot or the famous construction of a quay for fishermen. According to the latest studies, the wharf would now be considered at the Royal Marina.

So many ideas that took energy, time - both from elected officials and professionals to put them down on paper - and for some which required (a lot) of money in studies. In the end, never to come true. This prevents the population from (wanting) to believe in the new projects (public or private) presented today.
