Several employees and hotel management gathered last Friday at the Grand-Case Beach Club to celebrate the financial windfall that the hotel employees received thanks to the support of loyal customers of the establishment after the passage of Irma.
The rally took the form of a formal “thank you” from the employees to the wider Kopcienski family who organized the fundraising.
The hotel was severely damaged during hurricanes and the lives of all employees were disrupted, but a few days later, hotel guests and owners who regularly stay at the Grand-Case Beach Club regrouped on their own initiative to raise funds.
“Our family has been coming here for 30 years and there have been many events such as graduations, honeymoons, birthdays; we have a lot of wonderful memories and we know the staff well, ”says Jennie Frenette, who launched the fundraising initiative with her sister, Thérèse Blanton. “We all know them: security, cleaning ladies, gardeners, servants, waiters… When the Irma monster struck, we were all devastated in the United States by what had happened. Once we had the whole family together on the weekend of September 16, we decided to do something for the staff because here it is a bit like our second home
“This led to finding a funding site called 'Youcaring', where we started this fundraiser. In a few days, donations increased from $ 50 to almost $ 000!
Two distributions of the money raised have already been made. Each employee received a check for approximately $ 5.
A buffet lunch closed this beautiful day under the sign of sharing and generosity. _AF
