The Tourist Office of Saint Martin visited January 21 and Saturday January 27 in the United States, respectively in Miami and New York for a series of press conferences and meetings with professionals from tourism.

Indeed, since the passage of Hurricane Irma, this is the first official trip for the 1st Vice-President of the COM and President of the Tourist Office, Valérie Damaseau, accompanied by the territorial advisor and VP of the Tourist Office , Mr. Alex Pierre, the general manager, Kate Richardson and the promotion manager in the United States and South America, Aida Weinum, of Maia Pilzer of 100% Villa and Steve Wright of GCBC.

These press conferences had several objectives:

- Meet the press in order to take stock of the situation on the date of the destination.

- Present the tourism development strategy voted and approved in CT last November.

• give concrete information on the reception of visitors who would like to visit Saint-Martin in the coming months.

• Announce the planned hotel openings.

It was an opportunity for the delegation to meet its partners: Tour operators or booking centers such as Expedia or GoGo Travel, the airline Jet Blue, Moorings and Sunsails, and the President of the FCCA in order to discuss and adapt the actions to be taken in order to gradually revive tourist activity on the island.

In view of the harmful effects caused not only by the passage of Irma but also the bad information on the destination it is essential for the Tourist Office to ensure its role and its mission of promotion and information not only with tourism professionals but also the general public by ensuring a presence at trade fairs and other industry events.

At the end of January, the same delegation and representatives from the hotel industry went to Puerto Rico for the CHTA Marketplace.
