In three years, the early childhood capacity in the French part has dropped by 86 places. As of July 1 of this year, the number of places was 158, of which 80 were in crèche, 10 in micro-crèche, 40 with maternal assistants and 28 in maternal assistants (MAM) homes.
"In the post Irma context, some structures closed and childminders left the territory while others were no longer able, due to an inadequate housing, to receive children at home," comments the COM which has decided to encourage the creation of new childminder homes.
A MAM is "a device by which a maximum of four childminders can gather outside the home in a secure and suitable room, and each accommodate four children", explains the COM, which would like two new MAMs to be created next year.
For this, the territorial council meeting in plenary session last Friday, voted unanimously a start-up aid in the amount of 2 euros. An additional 000 euros will be allocated if the MAM is located in a district known as a priority of city policy. (soualigapost.com)
