Dengue: About 40 cases recorded per week in Saint-Martin

0

From mid-October to mid-November, around forty clinically suggestive cases are reported each week in Saint-Martin (against 50 previously), indicates Public Health France.

A slight decrease was therefore observed but which remains to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Since the start of the school year, dengue activity in the hospital has fluctuated, varying between one and five emergency room visits, one admission having taken place a week ago. Otherwise, the last hospitalization for suspected dengue fever dates back to last September.

Since mid-January, 132 emergency room visits have been recorded, of which 29 (21,9%) were followed by hospitalization.

Since the start of the epidemic, 2450 clinical cases of dengue have been recorded.

Remember that dengue is an arbovirus transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito which represents a constant threat to the West Indies.

It is a domestic mosquito that reproduces mainly in small collections of clear water, inside or around homes. Individual prevention is therefore essentially based on means of protection against mosquito bites (repellents in sprays or creams, coils, electric diffusers, long clothing, mosquito nets). Collective prevention is based on vector control and social mobilization.

The mobilization of everyone can reduce risks at the individual level but also collective by reducing the density of mosquitoes. Without the support of the population, those involved in vector control would not be able to cope.
