Deconfinement: Resumption of religious ceremonies on June 3 in Saint-Martin

By a decision of May 18, the Council of State ruled that the resumption of religious ceremonies could be envisaged subject to compliance with strict health rules.

On Friday May 22, Interior Minister Christophe Castaner and those in charge of worship were able to agree on the measures to be taken to ensure the health security of all.

In Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, gatherings of more than ten people during religious ceremonies may resume on June 3, provided that the measures necessary to deal with the Covid-19 epidemic are strictly observed.

Ensure respect for social distancing

Places of worship are required, like all other establishments open to the public, to respect barrier gestures as well as physical distancing measures. The organizers will ensure compliance with the rule the physical distance of at least one meter between two people, and will determine the maximum number of believers who can attend services.

Avoid gatherings in front of places of worship

Particular attention will be paid to the entrances and exits of buildings. For each place of worship, an identified person will be designated by the organization to regulate the flow, ensure the number of people present inside the buildings and avoid crowds around them.

Wearing a mask and hand disinfection mandatory at the entrance to religious buildings

The wearing of a protective mask and hand disinfection will be compulsory during religious ceremonies. Kissing and the peace sign will be prohibited.

If these rules are not respected, the Prefecture may prohibit the opening or order the closure of a place of worship
