Start of the development of the ravine: Paradis in Quartier d'Orléans

0

Work on the Paradis ravine began yesterday in the Quartier d'Orléans area.

This work is part of the operation of hydraulic development of the Belle Plaine watershed, carried by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, which has been the subject of numerous design studies since 2015.

The objective of the operation is to protect property and people against flooding and to ensure the sustainable development of new business areas at the level of Quartier d'Orléans.

The development of the Ravine Paradis is the first step in a series of actions to reduce flooding in the event of heavy rain. These measures were defined following technical studies and hydraulic modeling carried out across the entire Belle Plaine watershed.

 An intervention in 3 sectors

The works, which will last approximately 8 months, will focus on 3 intervention sectors identified as problematic for water flow:

Ravine Paradis Bridge on the RN7 road:

The current dimensions of the hydraulic section of the bridge are not sufficient to allow large quantities of water to pass in rainy weather, which causes flooding upstream and on the road. A new reinforced concrete frame bridge will be built in place of the current bridge, it will be equipped with sidewalk and body guards for pedestrian safety. In addition, the banks will be protected from erosion by riprap.

Cross the Range turn:

The banks of the ravine are affected by erosion caused by heavy rain and the section of the ravine is not sufficient. A U-shaped reinforced concrete structure will be built to reinforce the road, near the bend in Cross the Range street. It will be equipped with sidewalks and bodyguards for pedestrian safety.

Cross the Range Street Bridge

Around this bridge, the banks of the ravine are affected by erosion and restriction of the hydraulic section. Rockfill will be placed upstream and downstream to secure this sector.

Temporary traffic changes to be expected

The Community informs the inhabitants of the sector and the road users that road traffic disturbances will be expected during the duration of the works. All safety measures will be taken to modify road traffic (detours) and to limit the unavoidable noise pollution to carry out work to secure the surroundings of the ravine.

The Collectivity thanks the District Council n ° 1 which contributed to this organization and apologizes in advance to the users for the inconvenience caused by these works of public utility.

Details of the intervention phases

The works will be carried out in two phases requiring two separate traffic diversions:

Phase 1: Construction of a new hydraulic road structure (bridge) across the RN7:

- Work carried out between 28/10/2019 and 19/02/2020

- RN7 barred at the right of the work (dead end) with limited access to residents

- Deviation from the RN7 two-way traffic via rue des Grand Bas, rue Mullet-Fish and rue de Coralita.

Phase 2: Construction of a bank protection structure (canal) on Cross The Range Street:

- Work carried out between 27/02/2020 and 20/05/2020

- Cross the Range Street closed to the right of the work (dead end) with limited access to residents via Cross the Range Street and Saint-Georges Street.
