CULTURE: Distribution of the new Soualiga Island coloring book

0

The association Les Fruits de Mer has published a new coloring book, Soualiga Island. This book by Jenn Yerkes and illustrated by Paulina Hernàndez, which features the wide variety of Saint-Martin fauna, will be distributed free of charge this Saturday, November 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Amuseum Naturalis in Quartier d'Orléans.

The coloring book presents animals that live in Saint-Martin, so that children can color them and learn their names in four languages spoken on the territory, French, English, Spanish and Dutch. For each animal there is a coloring drawing with the name of the animal in the four languages. Each also has a page where kids can practice writing the animal's names with a color visual guide of all the animals on the back cover. Thanks to this, children will learn to spot them in the wild. Mark Yokoyama, co-founder of the association Les Fruits de Mer, insists on education: “Everyone needs to read and write. The best way to learn is to start early. This book makes it fun by using animals from this island that children can see around them. We believe the local theme will help kids connect more with reading and writing. This book is specially designed to encourage them to practice writing and to give teachers a great way to help them do so”. With Soualiga Island also available for free download (see info), more parents who do not necessarily speak French or English will be able to learn with their children. For teachers and youth group leaders interested in copies, contact info@lesfruitsdemer.com. Free Soualiga Island printouts will be distributed to local schools and students as part of the association's 2022 book distribution program. The project is supported by the City Policy and carried out with the support of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion. Long live multilingual art! _VX
