Covid-19: 105 new cases identified last week and five deaths to be deplored for two weeks

For the period from May 24 to 30, 105 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in Saint-Martin, "a very high figure again", notes the Regional Health Agency even if the number of contaminations has fallen compared to the week before (123 cases).

It should be noted that since May 31, already 47 cases of Covid have been identified.  A cluster has also been registered, in a social accommodation and integration establishment accounting for 7 cases.

The Louis Constant Fleming hospital is now welcoming 14 patients in the Covid unit, reopened to cope with the influx of patients with severe forms, while the previous months 1 to 2 patients were hospitalized. Hospital staff are tired and under stress.

Over the last two weeks, 7 medical evacuations of Covid-positive patients have been carried out to Guadeloupe, against only 2 since the start of the year. In addition, we deplore the deaths of 5 people over the past two weeks. Among them, none was vaccinated just like any of the people hospitalized. This brings the number of Saint-Martin residents who have died since March 18 as a result of the Covid-2020 to 19.

The appearance of severe forms of Covid, the large number of deaths over a short period and the risk of saturation of our hospital system, should remind us that we are in a pivotal period in the fight against this virus.

“The indicators are very high this week again. The incidence rate is 293,7 / 100 inhabitants. The weekly positivity rate is also always above the vigilance threshold with a rate of 000%. It remains very high and comparable to that of the previous week (6,1%).

The situation is very worrying in view of the number of hospitalizations as well as the deaths that we deplore again this week. All this data should alert us and encourage us not to lower our vigilance and to continue the efforts made on a daily basis while always respecting barrier gestures. It is equally important to understand the value of getting vaccinated in order to prevent the spread of the disease in its most severe forms. The protection of the most vulnerable is a collective responsibility to which everyone must contribute, ”underlines the health authorities.

As of June 2, 6 people have received their first injection and 176 people have received the second.

As a reminder, the vaccination began on January 13, 2021.

The vaccination rate of the adult population (18 years and over) in Saint-Martin is 22%. _AF
