Alliance Race: A regatta full of twists and turns

0

Postponed for a week due to bad weather conditions, the Alliance Race finally took place from December 6 to 8. The 16th edition of this regatta, which links Saint-Martin to Saint-Barthélemy and Anguilla, kept all its promises and provided good sensations to the various participants.

Friday, the first day of racing, the sailboats "Speedy Nemo" and "Maelia", from Saint-Barthélemy, won by taking first and second place respectively. But the days follow each other and are not alike, so on Saturday it is the boat "Team Island Water World" which won the Saint-Barthélemy-Anguilla stage. Everything remained to be done for this third regatta which was to lead the boats to Saint-Martin.

The two boats from Saint-Barth, “Speedy Nemo” and “Maelia” sailed well, but finished in the general classification in 4th and 5th place. Frits Bus, with “Team Island Water World”, occupies 3rd position, and “Kick em Jenny” finishes in second place, behind “Wanna Be”.

The latter, after having strongly opposed during the three days of regatta to "Kick em Jenny", won first place for the race on Sunday and ultimately climbed on the highest step of the podium in the general classification.

Three multihulls participated in the Alliance Race, but the “Spellbound”, helmed by Ian Martin and who finished in second place last year, prematurely ended the competition by abandoning Sunday, following a tear in the spinnaker . It was the fast "Seaduction", led by Petro Jonker, who won the three stages and suddenly the first place in the general classification, ahead of "Enola", another multi which, despite its speed, could not make the difference .

The Sint Maarten Yacht Club thanks the Saint-Barth Yacht Club and the Anguilla Sailing Association for their assistance to the event, a cooperation which is vital for the continuation and success of the regatta. _RM
