Five athletes from the Avenir Sportif Club de Saint Martin took the start last Sunday of the 29th Space Marathon in Kourou, as a team.

Under the leadership of their trainer Patrick Trival, the team composed of Félicia Paines, Anthony Seguin, Geneus Jefferson, Corinne Dufrenot and Magali Jasaron, completed the 42,195 km in 3h22mn18s, taking 24th place out of the 213 teams present. In individuals, 181 riders took the start.

When we know that part of the teams are made up of soldiers, gendarmes and others, we can say that the ASCSM was not unworthy.

The Toucan Athlétic Club organizes this relay each year. If some have embarked on the adventure in individuals, the torchbearers had to complete this marathon in five stages: 9,6 km for the 1st relay, 7,4 km for the 2nd relay, 8,080 km for the 3rd relay, 7,760 km for the 4th relay, and 9,6km for the 5th relay knowing that the last 1,5km are to be covered as a team.

Following Irma, the Kourou club handed over the recipe for one of its 2018 events to the ASCSM in order to show its solidarity with the Saint-Martin club.

This year, ASCSM wanted to be present on this marathon. This trip would not have been possible without the help of the GETELEC company, which has supported the club for years. A big thank you to the Toucan Athletic Club and to Getelec. The appointment was made for the Guyanese to come in turn to the "Friendly Island", or for Saint-Martin to be represented again at the 30th.  space marathon in 2020.
