The unthinkable took place last Saturday, in the afternoon, at the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium in Marigot. A young individual, aged 15, was wounded in the abdomen by an individual finally arrested yesterday by the gendarmerie services.
According to witnesses present on the spot, an altercation took place in the tribune while a football match was disputed. An individual in possession of a firearm fired several times and pursued his victim on the ground.
The young man, aged fifteen, was injured in the abdomen. While waiting for help to arrive and to be transferred to the hospital, the leaders and footballers provided first aid to the injured.

Aristide Conner, head of the Saint-Martin football league, wanted to provide the following details the day after the tragedy.
“On behalf of the Saint Martin Football League, our thoughts go first to the victim and his relatives. We would like to express our sympathy and solidarity to them.
There is no word to say how much we deplore the acts of violence that took place during a sports meeting at the Jean-Louis VANTERPOOL stadium on Saturday, November 9, 2019.
Also, it is important to us to reassure the population that these acts of violence are in no way linked to the football activities in progress at the time of the events.
For the time being, it is a matter of letting the justice system operate and wishing the victim a speedy recovery ”.

The author of the shots last Saturday in the stands of the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium, was arrested yesterday by the gendarmes, confirms the prosecutor of Basse-Terre. He is a Saint-Martinois born in 1992.
According to the first elements of the investigation, he had an argument with another young person who gave him a slap. In retaliation, the suspect took out a loaded weapon. The blow went away but did not hit the author of the slap but another young man aged 15.
The victim's state of health has been revised and "today (editor's note: yesterday) his vital prognosis is engaged" specifies the prosecution.
The suspect is heard by the search section which should be seized in the next hours for the benefit of the criminal center of Pointe-à-Pitre. He should be charged with attempted murder. _AF
