“I send my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Neville York who left us suddenly, Tuesday May 09, 2017. Our community has just lost one of its most fervent defenders of the culture of Saint-Martin.
As head of the Culture department of the government of Sint-Maarten, Neville York has chosen to invest with passion and great professionalism for the promotion of local culture, and the enhancement of wealth, traditions and customs of our island. He had become the Culture Mr. of Sint Maarten, and was in this sense a veritable encyclopedia of our collective heritage.
In addition to these undeniable assets, I would also like to salute his musical sensitivity and his talents as a traditional musician, he who handled the art of Steel pan so well, and who made it a point of honor to transmit his knowledge and his music to the young generation . He was an example to follow.
On behalf of the elected members of the Territorial Council and the employees of the community of Saint-Martin, I convey all my sympathy to the family of Neville York, as well as to the government of Sint-Maarten who employed him. His memory will live long in our hearts. "
