How Le Manteau distributes food packages (end)

Le Manteau is a solidarity association that offers support to people in difficulty.

This support takes the form of daytime reception (meals, food packages, support in administrative procedures, etc.) for the entire public and night accommodation for women victims of domestic violence.

To be able to benefit from a food package or a meal, people must register with the association. They must fill out a form and provide a certain amount of information about their situation. They can either benefit from a meal three times a day, or from a food package.

Meals are cooked on site by the Manteau team but can be taken away. An average of forty meals are distributed per week. As for the packages, they include food for two weeks and are also prepared by the team.

The association regularly receives donations from the three supermarkets in the French part (Monop ', Super U and Leader Price), these are products that cannot be sold because their packaging is damaged. The rest of the races are carried out and financed by the association.

"Parcels represent a budget of around 4 euros per week and meals of around 000 euros", indicates the director. “During the confinement, we received an additional operating grant from the state to meet the needs and the increase in meals to be distributed. It helped us a lot * ", says Audrey Gil.

Today 600 people are registered with the Manteau but not all of them necessarily benefit from a meal or a package. "We also help people in their administrative procedures", notes the director. Moms will also be able to receive assistance since Le Manteau will provide school supplies to their children.

The association will also relaunch its solitary clearance sale; the next one will take place on August 12.

* During confinement, Le Manteau with La Croix Rouge, Sandy Ground on the move and Cobraced were requested by the authorities to distribute meals and food packages. "The COM had identified the people and shared the distribution between the three associations", explains Audrey Gil. This made it possible to avoid abuse.
