Commemoration: Saint Martin commemorates the Appeal of June 18, 1940

On Sunday June 18, local authorities commemorated the 77th anniversary of the June 18, 1940 Appeal made by General de Gaulle on the BBC in London. This founding appeal of the French Resistance against the Third German Reich is today commemorated in all the communes and communities of France.

Prefect Anne Laubies, President Daniel Gibbs and the Veterans thus laid a wreath in homage to General de Gaulle and the dead for France, in the presence of the Standard-bearers, the Police and Gendarmerie forces, and representatives of the Territorial Youth Council of Saint Martin.

During this commemorative ceremony, the prefect decorated 4 police officers on duty in Saint-Martin. Major ABELARD received the Gold Medal for his 30 years of service in the national police, brigadiers chefs PERRIER and VAN-HOUTTE, as well as sub-brigadier LIENAFA, received the Silver medal for their 20 years of service with the police.
