Member of Parliament for the Northern Islands, Claire Javois wanted to speak on this health crisis which now affects Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth.

“Our country is at a standstill and it's a new ordeal for Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth. The Prefecture and the Collectivity relay the information and instructions implemented by the Government: it is important that we all show ourselves exemplary, by adopting barrier gestures and respecting containment measures. Our territory is still very fragile, let's do everything possible not to make it even more vulnerable.

I would like to salute the work carried out by our health professionals, all those who ensure the continuity of public services, our police, those who are on the front line to care for our young people, our seniors , the most fragile among us…

The health crisis we are experiencing today is coupled with an economic crisis.

As you know, faced with the spread of Covid 19, the Government decided to suspend the work of the National Assembly and only emergency texts relating to the virus were registered during the week. On the economic level, these texts authorize the Government to take by ordinance specific measures, valid for the next 3 months, in order to protect companies threatened by the health crisis and limit the cessation of activity. These measures being taken by ordinances, they are not specified at this stage, however the Government announced a plan of 45 billion euros to face the economic consequences of the pandemic, of which 35 correspond to measures to support the treasury businesses: you can count on me so that our overseas territories, and particularly Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth, are not forgotten by these measures.

My parliamentary team in Paris and here in Saint-Martin, and myself, remain mobilized and at your service during this period. So as not to risk lives and stem this epidemic, let's stay at home! "
