In order to strengthen its team already made up of around twenty professionals and volunteers from metropolitan France, but also to train them, the association Les Compagnons Bâtisseurs recruited five young local people in civic service for six-month contracts. Their mission is to promote social integration through housing and civic engagement. They are coordinated by Martine Beldor, also a native of Saint-Martin, who is at the same time responsible for carrying out social surveys with affected families who wish to benefit from the roof repair project.

These young people work four days a week from 7 am to 13 pm. During their mission, they will follow three compulsory training courses: work clearance at height and Civic and Citizen training (Center Fore), PSC1 (Red Cross).

The Companion builders are currently looking for a young person from Quartier d'Orléans in civic service to work on the neighborhood resource center. Remuneration: € 580,58.

• Kerry Isophe, 21 years old, she one of them and started her civic service in early May. He has lived since the age of 15 in La Courneuve (93) but returns regularly to Saint-Martin, sometimes for long periods. “Usually when I come home I don't do anything. But then I saw the announcement of the Compagnons Bâtisseurs and as I wanted to participate in the reconstruction of the island because many people still do not have a home, I applied ”he explains. Holder of a CAP in auto mechanics, he now realizes that he would have preferred to learn to work with wood to follow in the footsteps of his father who was a carpenter. Currently deployed on a site in Hameau du Pont, he is delighted to learn how to use the various tools and is moving forward: “I learn by watching others do it”. This does not mean that he plans to continue in this branch. Kerry has the ambition to make a career in kick boxing and will return to France at the end of her contract.
