Friday morning, the La Savane gendarmerie barracks was particularly buzzing with the arrival of General Jean-Marc Descoux, commander of the Guadeloupe gendarmerie, who came to preside over a ceremony. The opportunity for the general to say goodbye, since he is called to take command of the overseas gendarmerie at Arcueil.

Last ceremony, also, for Lieutenant-Colonel Sébastien Manzoni, commander of the departmental gendarmerie company of the North Islands who will leave his post to be transferred to the General Directorate of the gendarmerie in Issy-les-Moulineaux.

After passing the detachment of gendarmes, hoisting the colors and intoning the Marseillaise, General Jean-Marc Descoux delivered a letter of congratulations to Captain Gaëlle R., of the research section, for having, at the beginning of the year, solved the case of the murder of the teacher.

The ceremony ended, it was in the relaxation room that everyone met and that General Descoux made a quick assessment of his action in Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands, and in particular his experience during cyclone Irma. He paid tribute to the gendarmes of the Republican Guard who were present for Irma and who "showed remarkable professionalism".

The mobile gendarmerie “took part in a major event on the northern islands and in the breaking of a cycle which was particularly unfavorable (…) For several years, the situation was deteriorating and delinquency increased. Over the past three years, things have been reversed in quite a marked, unprecedented, general and lasting way in 2016, since this cycle has affected all segments of crime ”. An action which "is attributable to the sum of the professionalism of each of you" concluded General Descoux. _RM
